Affordable and Accessible Updates to the Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO)

NAU Country is proud to announce exciting updates to the Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO) endorsement! Initiated by NAU Country in collaboration with agent and producer groups, ECO addresses concerns over shallow losses and the necessary access to options that offer higher coverage levels. Highlights of the ECO expansion include:

  • Increased Cost-Share: Subsidy rates rise to 65% for both Revenue and Yield Plans starting in 2025, making coverage more affordable.
  • Expanded Crop Options: ECO now includes over 50 crops, from almonds to walnuts, ensuring more farmers can benefit from vital protection.
  • Shallow-Loss Coverage: Gain supplemental area-based coverage that shields losses from 86% up to 90% or 95%.

ECO's success emphasizes the need to advocate for producer fairness by making the program affordable and expanding the accessibility to more American farmers.

NAU Country joined forces with Watts and Associates, an economic consulting firm specializing in risk management innovation, and together, they developed and launched ECO in 2021. Initially 31 crops were available with the approval of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC). From the start, NAU Country recognized that a successful crop insurance program is one that helps as many producers as possible and has worked diligently to expand the program with particular emphasis on improving its availability to specialty crop farmers.

ECO remains committed to its primary objective to support American farmers by providing a safety net that kicks in when losses exceed the reach of traditional coverage options. By strengthening the crop insurance industry with additional coverage tailored to producers' needs, ECO aims to ensure that even in challenging years, farmers can recover and protect their livelihood.
